GENERAL

Passports: An IB Journal of the Arts publishes stellar creative work from students enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme around the globe. Any language is accepted with an English translation. 

We will give you feedback on your work as soon as possible. Please expect about 2-6 weeks to hear a response.

We accept:

  • Fiction: up to 3000 words

  • Poetry: up to 3 poems

  • Visual Art/Photography: up to 5 images

  • Music Composition: up to 3 compositions or under 15 minutes total

  • Film: up to 2 short films or under 20 minutes total

To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme at an approved International Baccalaureate school.

All submissions must be sent to passportsibjournal@gmail.com

The subject line should be:

Category Name: Submission Title _ Author

Ex: Fiction: The Old Man and the Sea _ Ernest Hemingway

In the body, please write a short third-person biography (under 50 words). Then attach your files appropriately; look at the category guidelines for specifics. Be sure to include the name of your high school, your school's numerical code, the name of your IB Coordinator, and his/her email address in the body of your e-mail as well.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know right away if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Successful submissions will be published on our web site, and a selection of those works will be chosen for inclusion in our year-end print journal. Artists who submit retain all rights to their work.


FICTION

  • Submit one or two pieces of fiction, total not exceeding 3000 words

  • Submit each piece as a separate file

  • Times New Roman, 12 pt font, 1.5 or double spaced

  • We are looking for pieces with depth and sincere thought. Have fun experimenting!

  • Do NOT submit non-fiction, creative non-fiction, or essays

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name


POETRY

  • Submit up to three poems

  • Submit each poem as a separate file

  • Any font, spacing, formatting is accepted and will try to be honored in publishing, but make sure to spend time with your pieces

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name


PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Submit up to five images.

  • File names should just be the name of the piece. Ex: Flying_Bird.jpeg

  • Your file size should be at least 2 MB

  • Ensure your file is minimum five inches in length and width

  • Send JPG or JPEG files that are at least 300 ppi

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name


VISUAL ARTS

  • Submit up to five images of visual arts works: paintings, drawings, sculpture, multimedia, etc.

  • Reference images must be original

  • File names should just be the name of the piece. Ex: Flying_Bird.jpeg

  • Your file size should be at least 2 MB

  • Ensure your file is minimum five inches in length and width

  • Send JPG or JPEG files that are at least 300 ppi

  • Scanned images need to be 72 dpi

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name


FILM & VIDEOGRAPHY

  • Submit up to two short films under 20 minutes total. Narrative, documentary, animation, etc.

  • For film, collaborative work IS acceptable. Please name all main contributors in the creative process.

  • Your file size should be at least 2 MB.

  • Name your file the title of your piece. Ex: Happy Girl.mp4

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name.


MUSIC

  • Submit up to three compositions or under 15 minutes total.

  • Submit an audio file or video of a performance of your original composition

    • File names should just be the name of the piece. Ex: Flying Bird.mp3

    • You do not have to be the performer in the recording/video performance of your composition.

    • Scores will be considered. However, our journal aims to be accessible to a wide audience, so it is recommended that you submit a performance of your composition.

  • Collaborative work IS acceptable. Please name all contributors.

  • We accept all genres!

  • If your composition has sheet music, please submit it as a PDF along with your audio/video file.

  • Do NOT mention your name or school in the file name.
