The Sailor

Jackson Dunn, Westwood High School (Austin, TX)

Beneath the crest of white tipped waves;

Long deeply watered, long sailor's grave:

“The kingdom of the sea”

Oh briney depths I sink to thee;

Twinkling lights, from above, from below

the cities of the living and dead all aglow

Between two distant worlds, not drowned, neither live;

Endlessly searching for truths that I know I cannot find.

I float silently, down to bottom sound,

To the drowning depths of my own black doom.

Like the wind of one's words, I fall, in the gathering gloom.
